Any takers for “Big Little Lies”?

I just finished Season 1 and loved it! I’m a big fan of the west coast’s rugged landscape. When I saw the shows opening footage, I was pretty excited because I ran two coastal marathons along California’s scenic Highway 1. I treasure this picture of me leading the pack on the spectacular Bixby bridge. For me, it was a transforming experience.

This post isn’t about running; it’s about transformation. Yesterday I posted how difficult it can be to change bad habits, and I know from experience that change is hard work.

Believe it or not, I was a smoker for 16 years – easily smoking one or two packs a day. I quit when I was pregnant. And although I found my why for quitting, it was hard!

Indeed, after my son was born, I had a couple of relapses during social gatherings. Most important for me, though, I was no longer hooked to it. Then I started running, and with my training career, smoking wasn’t in the picture anymore.

If you had met me 20 years ago in Germany, you would have laughed hard if I told you that I’d be running marathons one day. I completely changed my lifestyle, and if I can, you can too. Get out there and do it!
